A father with anger issues

In the last two weeks our therapists have answered 211 queries related to mental health.

I'm 22 currently and I just finished my graduation. My father has severe anger issues due to which he was violent with me and my mom throughout my life. I've asked my mom to leave him quite a few times but I know that she never will. My plan was to move out of the house as soon as I could earn myself which I'm capable of now but I want to get a PhD. I can't move out if I do so and staying at this house has exhausted all my mental and emotional energy. On top of it my father wants to marry me off now. I just can't seem to live in peace.

You've got a lot going on in your life so you need to choose your priorities clearly. PhDs are quite flexible so if you're ready to go the extra mile then you could actually earn while you get your degree. So maybe you should look further into that matter.

I'm sorry you had to receive so much trauma from a parent all your life. Right now if you stay at home then your dad might forcefully try to get you married so maybe you could talk to him assertively or just find a hostel to live in during your education. What's your mom's stance on this? Does she support you?
