You have a doubt and it’s important for you to clear it as it will help you in academics, so don’t fear them. Just ask them politely and trust me they will be offended as even they have been students themselves in their youth. Ask them and let me know how it goes

If you don't feel comfortable asking in front of your whole class you can always reach out to your teachers personally, trust they won't disrespect you.
