Anxiety before travel

In the last two weeks our therapists have answered 211 queries related to mental health.

I get very anxious before I have to travel somewhere, especially some place far. I always feel like something bad is going to happen to me. I started sweating and getting chest pains. My son is going to college in the US and I must go with him to drop him off safely and get him settled but I'm not sure I can do it. I'm too scared but I don't want to leave him alone and disappoint him.

Hello, A flight to US would take quite some time so getting over your fear within such a short notice doesn't seem possible. Besides it would bemuch more problematic for your son if you fell sick in between. Try to send your partner instead of yourself with your son and talk to him honestly about your fear. Parents are humans too afterall.

If you have to travel at any cost, then make sure you have enough distractions in the flight so that you don't have enough time to feel anxious. Getting a proper plan helps too. Also, don't just go alone with your son. Having your partner or move family member can help in case things go wrong.
