yeah... in online mode for 3-4 yrs... considering that it's gonna be a drop yr.. I'm thinking about taking it.
zestyHawk4
iit offers bsc?....i didn't knew about this....i only knew that iit offers msc
zestyHawk4
1
and i heard that data science is a good emerging course now with high scope....so ig it will be good to take it
zestyHawk4
btw why is it online???...all the offline classes has started in iit isn't it??
skylar
most of the iits offer btech and few diplomas (new concept) , this bsc in data sci particularly is a new course started since prev yr.
skylar
for offline course one needs to get into it through jee adv. - it'll have some eligibility criteria and restrictions. and this one which I'm talking about has no restricting criteria... any age group or a 10th Or 12th graduate from any stream can join.
zestyHawk4
without giving adv?
skylar
online mode
zestyHawk4
one can attend online mode in iit without giving jee adv??
skylar
yeap , it's from iit m
zestyHawk4
1
oh I see...then ig u should take it as data science has a good scope in future and it's from iit
zestyHawk4
just have one question will u doing any other course alongside with this...as it's online??
skylar
I'm taking this yr as drop... so I'm considering it... but u can do it along with other course (offline or online) if u want there's no bar
zestyHawk4
oh ok I'll consider it....btw is the degree worth? as the students didn't gave jee adv??
zestyHawk4
btw do u know the course fee?
skylar
1
yeah it is... see jee adv is just a exam to select best of the best student for engineering (b.tech courses)as there are very less no. of seats. let's be honest there that these exams sucks out energy and creative of the students which leads to the early burnout in their adulthood... I think that these courses are great initiative..which provides flexibility and gives control to the students to explore more.
zestyHawk4
oh ok... I'll look into this matter then
skylar
about fees I'm researching abt it... the application fee is ₹3000 , which includes a 4 week lectures and assignments , then there will be a qualifier exam. if u qualify this exam , u'll get into foundation level... then here's were we submit some amt of fees.... thats how it goes.. for each another phase/level there's some amt to pay
zestyHawk4
btw how was ur 12th if u don't mind me asking....u gave ur 12th this year right?
zestyHawk4
do u know the amount of fees we need to pay after qualifying....have they mentioned it?
skylar
my results were meh! taking best 5 subj ,i get around 78%
zestyHawk4
my result also want that great
zestyHawk4
so what are u planning to do in this drop year?
skylar
it's somewhere around 30k after qualifiers exam, i think for whole 3-4 yrs degree along with internships (grad.) , it goes around 1L -1.5L ... I'm not like 100% sure . I found this in some article
skylar
the same, will be giving neet, mains and ipmat I guess... my parents aren't really keen on of me.. it's just me trying to get a decent college hopefully far away from here
zestyHawk4
oh ok... thank u for the information
skylar
lemme know if u plan to join, last date is 19 aug
zestyHawk4
i see...i was also planning to take a drop but i don't think i can handle one more year studying 12th books...tbh now i really want to go to college.....but as my 12th marks isn't that great....so i don't think I'll get any good college now....but I'll work hard from now on
skylar
toh, u gonna take a drop or not? or are u still in deciding phase?
zestyHawk4
1
yeah I'll let u know....first let me talk with my parents
zestyHawk4
1
no i won't be taking a drop
zestyHawk4
1
hey i think the course can be really beneficial as iitm says that they will give placements and internship to the students who completes diploma in data science
skylar
yeah, that it seems so...,it's worth giving a short... still it's gonna take time to convince parents .
zestyHawk4
yes true
zestyHawk4
1
there are many benefits to it as it is online and we can do other courses while doing the data science course.... and it's from IIT without giving any jee exam..... with many placements and internship
zestyHawk4
let me know if u apply for it
skylar
sure... I think I will be applying..... after qualifiers score... we can decide , where to go from there. when r u starting u college tho?
zestyHawk4
1
i have applied to some colleges and they will release the merit list from 10th aug....so ig I'll be joining college from sep or oct.....i really don't have that much idea regarding this actually
zestyHawk4
btw can u tell me the time period of this course??
skylar
it depends....the full course takes around 3-4 yrs. and 8 months -2 yrs on diploma. time factor depends upon how much time u devote to it... they recommend giving it at least 10hrs a week.
zestyHawk4
by full course u mean the fundamental course, diploma, bsc and bs?
zestyHawk4
or just the fundamental course?
skylar
bsc as in degree level
zestyHawk4
suppose if i do fundamental course diploma bsc bs everything then how much time will it take?
skylar
3-4 yrs max, if u r devoting enough time needed.
zestyHawk4
u mean 10hrs a week?
skylar
1
yeap, attending lectures, doing assignments, projects, etc... at some u will need to devote some time to learn some programming language for basics like python or java or c++
zestyHawk4
like as they said we can do this course alongside with other course...ig we can't do that then
skylar
time management + it's kind of flexibile... if u go to their web u can find abt this.., like they adjust batches or something... I don't there's much pressure.... as they give out content per week wise... expect us to submit the same way. I'm still researching tho.
skylar
it's more abt making the most of the info +knowledge they provide... and learning skills
zestyHawk4
oh i see
zestyHawk4
ok ok
zestyHawk4
1
I'll surely go through the website....and tell me parents about this course
zestyHawk4
1
i watched some yt videos regarding data science in iit....it said computing thinking and statistics are tough
skylar
well it is computing thinking and statistics.... can't say until I try it.. tho
zestyHawk4
earlier i was thinking doing this with my other bsc....but now after watching those videos i am little doubtful....that can i manage two degrees at same time
skylar
what major r u gonna pursue?
zestyHawk4
chemistry
skylar
then it can be a bit tedious to handle.
zestyHawk4
well I'll see the qualifier exam and they will also give us material.... I'll see then that can i do it or not
zestyHawk4
and they said like min a student need to give 10hrs a week
skylar
so u gonna apply?
zestyHawk4
i haven't talk with my father yet and I'll ask my chem teacher that will it be difficult to manage both the degree
zestyHawk4
I'll let u know in 2-3 days
skylar
okay
zestyHawk4
are u applying??
skylar
I'll tell u in few days too, there's a high chance I would try at least
zestyHawk4
oh good.
deep_thinker
1
hey
deep_thinker
1
u decided?
skylar
1
not yet..! I haven't discussed with my father yet.
deep_thinker
1
It would be better to join the course temporarily and at the same time continue practicing for NEET
skylar
1
yeap, that's what I'm thinking... if I change my mind in future.. I can just settle for diplomas (at the end of 2yrs) -and work Internships or part time jobs...
deep_thinker
1
yeah, It will also help you to reduce your mental stress
