Unfortunately in most societies, parents still tend to have different standards when it comes to boys and girls. Although it isn't fair, but their either do it due to safety concerns or because of the kind of conditioning they have got from the society they are a part of. Unrealistic expectations are often a burden that many girls feel, but I would suggest that you can try being open with them and start making them believe that you are as able and mature as your brother to live the kind of life you want. Show them that you are becoming more independent and also try to open up their mind. Although it will take time, but a lot of parents tend to change their outlook when it comes to their daughter. Living life without restrictions is your right and there is nothing wrong in doing that, but just try to make them understand you and eventually you will see a positive change in them. They also must be having a lot of barriers in their mind, you just need to help them to learn and accept that things have changed and hopefully they will also evolve with time.

It can be very difficult to live by the rules and regulations of our parents when they run in contradiction to our own beliefs. Its understandable that you feel you're being treated with partiality. Have you considered talking to your parents about what is their reasoning behind this, beyond just the you're a girl? Parents can often put a lot of expectations on girls to be perfect. While it's not always possible to argue out with them, it's important that you try to maintain your individuality through it. Explore what your values are. What you find important. Work at understanding yourself better. Nobody can be perfect, nor is the expectation to be so reasonable or healthy. So even though they may have that expectation of you, manage your own expectations with this awareness and self compassion. It may take a while before your parents look at things differently but here are a few things you can do to take things in the right direction: 1. Make concerted efforts in self growth, self compassion and self love. 2. Try and communicate with your parents in a way that is different from how you usually do. If you find it hard to put forth your beliefs in a direct conversation, consider writing to them. Not only will that feel less threatening, it will also allow you to think through your own feeling. Remeber that they may not immediately understand your perspective. So even when they don't, remeber that your feelings about this are not invalid simply because they don't get it.
