How to let go of rage against someone?

How to forgive someone who is a very distant relative who has verbally abused you in the past? It's been 6 Years and I was pretty young back when it happened and I couldn't do much back then but now I feel this rage within me that why I didn't do anything to that person, how could he abuse me like that for no reason!

since you mentioned that you were young when it happened and has continued for a long time. i would suggest you, if you are willing to, you can confront that person and let him know how his words has affected you for years. if he understands it, he would apologize and if not you can physiologically resign from the relation because some people are not capable of change. sometimes they dont see it as a problem so they do not want to understand and change. at the end, confronting and expressing yourself instead of blaming will help you deal with the intense emotions you are experiencing.
