Mood swings are very unpredictable and difficult to deal with. Most women experience mood swings around the time of their periods. Try to engage yourself in the activities you like doing. Try to regulate the overwhelming emotions into doing something productive. Do you practice any physical activity around the time of your periods? Any type of physical activity like a long walk in a park has proven to have significant effect on mood regulation and periods related mod dysfunction. Are you sure that these are just during the time of your periods? If it is frequent and extreme then there could be other reasons as well leading to extreme reactions.

I am a fairly active person but I do not exercise during my period. Thanks I'll try going for a walk. My moods actually sometimes, last for a month or two. It becomes difficult to get out of bed or do the things I do regularly. I am tired most times even after doing nothing and I sleep 13-14 hours a day. I stress eat because I dont complete my daily tasks. I am a writer but I dont feel like writing. I just want to lie in bed all day. I shut out my friends for days. These phases come and go. Do you suggest I seek professional help? I havent yet, because I thought its not very important. But now Im just exhausted.

Then this is a pattern that is continuously happening it is not because of periods but there are other factors as well triggering such phases. You should seek professional help to rule out the underlying reason of such behaviour. The more you’ll ignore it the nore severe it will become. Professional help will help you guide through the process and help build a better sense of self. For now a small tip is that make daily to do list and try to work on it.
