My child is depressed

In the last two weeks our therapists have answered 211 queries related to mental health.

I'm a mother of two and I think my elder one has depression. He's 16 years old and seems to have no friends. He's stuck in his room all day playing video games and doesn't even come out to eat. It's been months since I saw him smile properly. He has gotten very angsty as well. I tried to ask him indirectly if something was wrong but he shrugged it off. What do I do?

Hey, Teenagers often try to disassociate from their parents try not to take it personally, but a lack of social relationships can be concerning if he has no friends at all. Sit him down and ask him directly about the patterns you've noticed. Even if he doesn't open up, let him know that you're always there for him if he needs to talk.

Find ways to minimize his screen time. Don't just take all his internet privileges all of a sudden because that can cause resentment but try to do family activities and tell him that he has to participate. Bring stuck on the internet for all day long can hinder social skills and well-being.
