My dad is having an affair

In the last two weeks our therapists have answered 211 queries related to mental health.

Yesterday I found out that my dad is having an affair with one of our family friends. I had to use his phone to find a mobile number and I accidentally stumbled upon their chat threads. I'm horrified and I don't know whether I should tell my mom. They've been married for 26 years and my mom isn't financially independent. I feel like even if I tell her she will stay with him but their relationship would become poisoned. I wish I never found out, why would he do something like this? I can't respect him anymore

I can understand how you feel. Getting failed by your parents is very tough but I think you should still tell your mother the truth. She's an adult who should be allowed to make her own decisions.

Parents are real people who make mistakes as well, there's no point holding them up to an unachievable standard. You could talk to your father about what you found out and ask him to stop this. If he refuses, definately tell your mother. However long the marriage might be, she needs to know the truth.
