My mother in law bullies me

In the last two weeks our therapists have answered 211 queries related to mental health.

Although ours was a love marriage, we live in a joint family. I'm an ngo worker and my husband is a lawyer. Due to our background I thought my in-laws wouldn't try to control me but I was completely wrong. Even in such stressful covid times my mother-in-law keeps bugging me about my work and how I should stay at home and focus on the family. She often abuses me in privacy and then acts like nothing happened in front of my husband. I can't live in this arrangement happily anymore, I like my freedom and don't want to sacrifice my work

Handle this cautiously. First of all talk to your husband about how you feel like your mother-in-law doesn't support your career. Try not launching into a rant about how she's a bad woman because your husband is not going to be supportive if you badmouth his mother. Together you can hopefully find a solution.

Hello, You might not want to right now, but try developing a bond with your mother-in-law. If you want the relationship to last, it's better to be on good terms with your in-laws.
