in my opinion it depends if he cheated on u so don't actually give him a second chance because it will tell more about you then the other person or if there are some other problems give it a try

Actually it depends on the situation when they did the mistake, if it was really done as a mistake , as in they didn't really know the consequences and didn't really realise, then you can give them another chance. not otherwise
