OCD about god

Question

I was born a muslim and for most of my adult life I've been very attached to religion. I love God but I'm constantly fearful of being punished by the universe for doing anything that goes against the religious sayings. I launch into panic when I feel attracted to somebody. I told my mother about this but she only scolded me. Is this normal?

If you come from a very religious background then it's quite common but you need not fear God so much. Religion is supposed to spread hope not terror.

Don't mix shame and spirituality. It's okay to feel shameful if you've truly done something bad but you can't control attraction, it's a natural instinct. Don't be so hard on yourself.
