You can't force anybody to love you. Suppose he gives in and agrees to be together. But what if he is not able to give his 100%? If he is saying it's a big deal for him, let him go. Never Chase anyone for love. Keeping loving yourself and be self sufficient. No point in persuading him if he is not ready for a commitment

I think you should clearly ask him about his stand and tell him that you are expecting something else if he doesn’t feel the same then it’s okay you don’t want things to affect you and emotionally exhaust you any further.

Please don't run behind anyone. You don't need someone that make you to ran behind them. You need someone who walks with you in your journey of ups and downs to the end of your day. Wait and let the time takes over the situation till then sit and take a breathe, move on with time. The time and destiny will lead you the person who will walk with you and that person will carry you in his/her arms when you are hurt ....
