Toxic relationship with father

My father is a typical Indian dad. He has never been very affectionate with me or my brother and is extremely critical of everything we do. I'm grateful to him for raising us and providing us with all basic amenities when we were younger but that's as far as our relationship goes. I decided to pursue a career in Geography instead of Engineering and that disappointed my father. Even years after he has not let it go. I'm having a hard time finding a job right now and everyday he taunts me over the fact that I picked a career with less scope and hence cannot earn anything. I'm already upset about my joblessness but his words further sadden me, I feel angry at myself and at him for never supporting me

Your father probably wants the best for you but cannot express his emotions in a way that you might find helpful. Try to tell him how you feel without being bitter, even if his behsviour doesn't change, you can atleast be satisfied with the knowledge that you tried to mend your relationship with him.

Find a job has been hard for everybody in the country recently so do not beat yourself up over it. If your father cannot be considerate to your situation,then just work harder to better yourself and prove your worth to him. He will only truly respect you when you earn that respect and not when you have to ask him for it.
