Depression from alcohol withdrawal

Question

My girlfriend asked me to stop drinking because she said I was going overboard with it so I did. But now I feel awkward when I casually hang out with my friends and colleagues as its a big part of our gatherings. Not only that, I think I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms too. I've never had problems with anxiety or depression but these days I'm always sad due to no reason. Was I an alcoholic?

Depends on how you define alcoholic I guess. If you drank significant amounts of alcohol almost every day then it's normal to crave it if you suddenly stop.

Proud of you for taking a good step for yourself. Experiencing withdrawal in the form of depression is difficult but it's also normal. You just need to stay strong through this phase and have the willpower to not drink. All the best!

It's hard yet you have to stick to it. Don't quit it all of a sudden also whenever you feel depressed try talking to her as it's so certain that you've got a lovely caring gf so go to her whenever you feel down. Don't quit drinking rather find a alternative and you've already got you alternative- your gf. Hope you are fine and have a great future:)

Keeping aside the anxiety and withdrawal symptoms, kudos to you for quitting! Can't really say how much of an alcoholic you were. Maybe you could join a group or a club of people dealing with withdrawl symptoms and find better ways to cope. Also, I'm sure your girlfriend can help you in this too.
