Ocd lying and stealing

Question

I'm 17 right now but I've been obsessively lying and stealing things for as long as I can remember. My parents just treat me like I'm a terrible person but that's not true, I try very hard to stop but I just can't. I sometimes even forget stealing altogether. I don't want to be this person that everybody is ashamed of.

Hey, don't be hard on yourself. You're going through a medical issue here. Just try to control your urges by calming yourself down. Everything you steal or lie, take a moment to evaluate what you're doing. It'll become easier for you to pull back.

One of my close friends have an issue with compulsively lying too. We would just call her out when she did that and it helped her retreat back to normalcy. Have an open conversation with your friends and family regarding the matter so that they can support you.
