It's not desperateness but it's important to give space in the relationship. You should talk about each other's expectations from the relationship before formally starting it. That's why it is important to know the person first and then decide if you will be able to be with the person or not. Or that person will be able to be with you or not. The reason being every person is different this might be your nature that you want more attention and the person is just taking the relationship casually. Talk ad communicate what you like and what bothers you.
